Tulip Mural

I painted this mural in Roberts Alley in Downtown Fargo in fall 2025. It measures over 6 by 28 feet!

As I explain, "The design features a close-up view of tulips in full bloom. The tulips are backgrounded by abstract representations of a river (blue) and stones (dark gray), set against a soil-colored background. The mural brings to mind the wonder, beauty, power, and ever-changing state of the natural environment. The artist was inspired by the country gardens of his maternal ancestors and the landscapes of the Red River Valley.”

This mural is part of the Downtown Neighborhood Association’s four-part “Public Art Campaign." Find it in Roberts Alley behind Hill Law at 303 Roberts St N.

Strawberry Quilt

I painted this mural on the side of the local bowling alley in Park River, ND, in June 2023. It measures in at nearly 10’ tall by 18’ wide!

The mural is titled “Strawberry Quilt.” The structure, with its two-tiered block-like border and interior panels, is inspired by quilt construction and local quilt-making traditions. The strawberry imagery reflects a cherished garden product and popular home decoration motif. The design’s familiar structure, lush colors, and garden references combine to conjure up comfort, sweet memories, and warm days in the sun.

This design merges my inclination towards flat images, pleasant colors, and a familiar yet fresh impression. Here, I think it engages with a spirit of Americana which the bowling alley -- complete with vintage signage -- suggests. This project was supported by the Park River Area Community Foundation.
